The Ohio Department of Taxation (ODT) is currently offering tax amnesty for unpaid or underreported taxes due as of May 1, 2017. The Ohio Tax Amnesty program is an opportunity to address outstanding tax liability with significant savings – it could help your company avoid 100% of penalties and 50% of the interest that would otherwise apply.

The risk of a tax delinquency being discovered by tax agents is real and carries with it the added cost of penalties, interest and potential collection fees. By paying the full amount of all taxes and 50% of the interest, the state will waive all penalties and the other 50% of interest, and will not pursue any potential civil or criminal action.

Eligible business taxes:

  • State and Local Sales Tax
  • State and Local Use Tax
  • Commercial Activity Tax
  • Financial Institutions Tax
  • Excise Tax for Alcohol/Tobacco/Cigarettes

This program is only available to companies who are not under audit, have not been audited, are not eligible for an abatement and have not received a notice of assessment. Note that returns filed under Ohio Tax Amnesty may still be subject to audit.
