Tax Technology Implementation: Six Phases of Methodology

by DMA Staff | Nov 09, 2016

Our Methodology

Decades of expertise, experience and tailoring has brought DMA to a fine tuned and concise, yet comprehensive and efficient project plan and methodology for our tax technology implementation. Our methodology consists of the following six key phases to streamline project templates and deliverables. DMA also employs a sign-off phase and will often link the success of our implementation to obtaining the signature requisites of the client for key phases within the project. Although our methodology includes efficiency enhancements, at the client’s request any portion of the methodology can be customized to conform to the client’s expectations.

1. Project Planning: DMA’s professionals will meet with your project team to outline the project plan.  We will also communicate tasks related to the successful completion of the project and develop a detailed project plan to determine roles and responsibilities, identify project sponsors, and agree upon future communication processes.

2. Solution Design: During this phase, DMA will meet with your business and tax subject matter experts to gain an understanding of your current tax processes for receivables and compliance procedures.  We then create a solution document detailing how the necessary ERP and tax engines should be configured to address the needed requirements now and for future expansion with other entities and countries possibly added later.  DMA will also create documentation outlining your requirements for the project.

3. Configuration & Development: DMA works with and supports ERP and tax engine developers throughout the creation of the integration component. We also configure all necessary software components based on the solution design documents, unit test the solution, and work with your resources to be involved in an integrated testing process. DMA will coordinate all implementation and configuration tasks with your designated team.

4. Testing: DMA provides best practices and sample testing scripts. We work with you to troubleshoot errant test results and provide resolution via reconfiguration when applicable. Testing will be considered complete when test returns are fully reconciled with the tax engine returns module and your ERP general ledger.

5. Training: DMA works with both your tax and IT resources to provide training on the configuration, operation, and maintenance of any and all configurations. The training will be specifically tailored to provide information important to all user groups based upon your design and configurations.

6. Go-Live & Support: DMA works with your team to ensure the steps necessary to move the configured solution to the production environment are documented and understood.  DMA also provides on-site, post-production go-live support.  DMA will support go-live through successful returns filing.
